North Cape board approves routine financial items, hears gym-floor and roofing updates and bus-camera replacement plan

At its Sept. 15 meeting the North Cape School District Board of Education approved the treasurer’s reviewed financials and payroll/disbursement checks, and received facilities updates including a gym-floor paint correction and completed roof work.

Treasurer Ryan Menken reviewed the district’s revenue, expenditures and balance sheet and noted the proposed budget had been presented the previous month. The board approved the financials on a motion by Tom Henningfeld, seconded by Ryan Malchine. The board also approved payroll and disbursement checks, including check 818 for Maas and Sons charged to committed funds; that motion was made by Keith Jacobson and seconded by Tom Henningfeld.

Old-business facilities updates reported that the gym-floor installer returned to complete work; staff said the floor itself is acceptable but the paint color was incorrect after paint from two manufacturers was used. "Schmidt Flooring has accepted responsibility for the problem with the paint," the board was told; the incorrect blue will be repainted over the Christmas break and teams are using Waterford Graded School’s gym for practice in the interim.

District staff also reported roofing work by contractor Harvey is complete and came in at the lower end of the contractor’s quote.

In the superintendent report, district superintendents from Waterford High School, Waterford Graded School, Washington Caldwell, Drought and North Cape agreed to replace surveillance cameras on buses dispatched from the Waterford terminal to improve drivers’ ability to capture and share footage with schools when needed.

The board moved to adjourn at 5:38 p.m.; the motion carried.
