Nash County commissioners accept $241,687 in CDBG-CV funds, approve three budget amendments

The Nash County Board of Commissioners on June 29 accepted $241,687.48 in Community Development Block Grant–Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) funds from the North Carolina Department of Commerce’s Rural Economic Development Division to purchase additional Stryker stretchers and a Stair Pro for the county EMS, Finance Director Nikki Stanton told the board at a special called meeting in Nashville.
The board approved a Project Budget Ordinance Amendment to reflect the award after a motion by Commissioner Freddy Howell, seconded by Commissioner Gwen Wilkins; the motion was recorded as duly passed. Stanton said the award comes as an additional allocation to earlier CDBG-CV funding and will be directed to EMS equipment needs.
In the same meeting the board approved three fiscal-year 2025–2026 budget amendments Stanton presented. The first amendment authorized a $50,000 general fund appropriation for Management Information Systems telephone expenditures (Revenue: 0100991-499100 Fund Balance Appropriation; Expenditure: 0104211-532100 MIS Technology Telephone). The second established a $3,400 fund-balance appropriation to provide the county match for an Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) Impact Plus program award (Revenue: 0100991-499100; Expenditure: 0105235-569034). Commissioner J. Wayne Outlaw moved to approve the budget amendments; Commissioner Freddy Howell seconded and the motion was duly passed.
Stanton also described three school repair and renovation projects submitted to and approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction under the Public School Building Repair and Renovation Fund (PSBRRF), created by the General Assembly in L.S. 2021-180 and funded by the North Carolina Education Lottery. Those projects total $115,787 in eligible costs; Stanton said funds are available to draw down for Nash County Public Schools and that no additional county funds are required. The board included the revenue (0100215-459151 Lottery – PSBRRF $115,787) and corresponding expenditure (0105910-563050 PSBRRF Lottery $115,787) lines in the approved amendment.
Following the approvals, Commissioner Freddy Howell moved to adjourn; Commissioner Robbie B. Davis seconded and the motion was duly passed. Janice Evans, clerk to the board, recorded the meeting minutes.
