Council member Mike Jordan asked about coordination between the lighting work and a separate sidewalk project. The Clerk said the timing was uncertain: "We're going to see if they will allow us to delay the sidewalk project and do them both at the same time, but they might not," and noted the city would try to avoid tearing up new sidewalk if the lighting installation followed later.
The council heard that engineering for the sidewalk had been completed by Great West Engineering but that a contractor had not yet been selected. The Clerk said procurement would proceed by public bid; if the projects could be combined, the city would likely use a single contractor with subcontractors as needed.
On timing, the Clerk said a conference call with a congressional staffer indicated the city might know by the end of March whether the project would move forward to Congress, but that national events could affect that timeline. The Clerk also said the application deadline required the resolution to be in place now so the city could submit the request.
The council approved the resolution by roll-call vote; the Clerk announced the motion passed. The resolution authorizes submission of a community project funding request and does not itself appropriate funds. The city will budget its local match in the next fiscal-year budget process if the grant is awarded.
Next steps identified at the meeting include submitting the funding request to Representative Downing's office, proceeding with procurement for the sidewalk contract, and budgeting for the local match during the next budget cycle. The council adjourned following the vote.
