Glendive department heads report rising incidents: fire calls up slightly, ambulance calls jump

The Glendive Fire Department recorded 101 incidents in 2025, up from 91 in 2024. Mayor Diane read the department's breakdown: 27 smoke and fire alarms, 14 CO/natural gas calls, 12 structure fires, 11 power-line incidents, 10 motor vehicle accidents, nine EMS assists, eight grass wildland fires, six standbys and four dumpster fires.
Chief Mills reported December calls for police service totaled 578 and the department issued 38 citations. Mills said the department received a new patrol car that will be outfitted and on the road by February, and that the department remains two officers short and is recruiting for a part-time dispatch position.
Mary Jo, the ambulance service representative, said the ambulance service responded to 830 calls in 2025, 92 more than the previous year, including 616 911 responses, 30 standby events and 157 airport transports. The ambulance service logged 13,758 miles and listed 20 responders on its roster, with 12 students finishing a training class this week.
Officials noted staffing pressures and equipment needs; police and ambulance leaders said recruitment and training remain priorities for early next year.
