Police Chief E.J. Long told Council a new patrol vehicle had been delivered and presented two upfit estimates; Council approved Nottingham & Sons' $12,357.75 estimate on a roll‑call vote. Chief Long also reported that in‑car camera systems had been shipped and that the town was awaiting vendor installation. Later in the meeting he presented a Patrol PC quote of $10,500.93 for a fifth in‑car camera system and asked to use LEA funds (reported balance $15,796) to cover that purchase plus a vehicle cage and breathalyzers. Council approved the Patrol PC quote on a motion by Councilman Daniel Bloxom.
Chief Long introduced newly hired Officer Phillip Barringer earlier in the meeting.
Why it matters: The approved purchases and pending installations increase on‑duty monitoring and evidence‑collection capacity for the Onley Police Department and use designated grant funds rather than the town’s general fund. Chief Long cautioned that certain criminal matters limit how soon full incident details can be shared with Council and the public.
Next steps: Nottingham & Sons will upfit the new patrol vehicle; Axon (camera vendor) and Patrol PC are to complete camera installations per vendor schedules. Funding for the Patrol PC purchase will be drawn from the Law Enforcement Assistance fund balance noted by the chief.
