Kensington moves on parking task force, sidewalk options and town-office remodel

Council members and town staff on Oct. 10 described several near-term mobility and facilities initiatives, including a new Parking Task Force, interim sidewalk safety measures, and an office renovation plan for Town Hall.
Council Member Lichter said she and Council Member Crimmins will establish a Parking Task Force to examine parking and mobility improvements; nominations are being accepted and the council plans to use an outside consultant. Joe Campbell asked how to request placement on the task force.
Town Manager Steve Hoffman reported the State Highway Administration has delayed ADA sidewalk improvements along Connecticut Avenue until FY2028. As an interim safety step, Hoffman proposed having the town contractor add a back curb and railing in one area until SHA proceeds. He also proposed installing a sidewalk on the north side of Howard Avenue between Connecticut and Armory Avenue, adding a crosswalk at Armory and Howard, and exploring a bench at the bus stop.
Hoffman said he is working with architect Margaret Upton and presented a sketch plan to remodel third-floor town offices. Council Member Engle noted recent pedestrian and bicycle committee coordination and a Walktober event on Oct. 19; the Maryland Transit Administration submitted a federal grant application on behalf of the town for Rail Crossing Elimination funding.
