Town of Pearisburg to Begin Year-Long Wastewater I&I Study, Consultant Says

The Town of Pearisburg heard a presentation on a planned wastewater inflow and infiltration (I&I) analysis from Lance Gates of the L.A. Gates Company at its Feb. 10 council meeting. Gates outlined an approach that he said includes system mapping, manhole logging and inspection, smoke testing coordinated with SERCAP, video inspection of deficient lines and flow monitoring during dry and post-rain events.
The study, Gates told the council, is intended to identify sources of inflow and infiltration and to quantify flows over time. He said mapping is ongoing, field inspections and smoke testing will begin in the coming weeks weather permitting, and flow monitoring is expected to continue for approximately one year with seasonal evaluation.
Town officials at the meeting indicated the study will be used to guide subsequent field work and capital planning for the wastewater system. The presentation did not include a council vote; the Town will receive field inspection and monitoring data as the consultant progresses with the study.
Next steps identified at the meeting: field inspections and coordinated smoke testing to begin in the coming weeks, and installations for flow monitoring to proceed with roughly one year of data collection and seasonal review.
