Treasurer Dorothy Washington read the Town of North Brentwood's proposed FY2027 budget at the May 4 council meeting, reporting total proposed revenues and expenditures of $1,280,774.
The reading included revenue sources and notable line items: speed-camera gross revenues listed at $300,000; community-development and senior-living grants among the restricted revenues; franchise and PEG fees from Comcast and Verizon; property and income tax estimates; and miscellaneous income (including rental and program revenues). Major expense categories shown in the reading included general government and administrative costs, public works, public safety, and town-sponsored services and donations.
Mayor Petrella Robinson emphasized that this was the first reading and explained the schedule: the council will hold a second reading and a budget public hearing on May 18; final adoption is expected in June. The mayor and treasurer said supporting documents will be posted in the newsletter and on the town website and that residents may request hard copies.
Councilmember Evan Dane noted several county-funded projects and clarified Gateway CDC and other competitive grants that will support local facilities; the budget reading also lists allocations for community programs (scholarships, literacy programs), North Brentwood Day and donations to area nonprofits.
The document as read balanced revenues and expenses and described a zero net income for the fiscal year. The council did not take a final vote on the budget at the May 4 meeting; the public hearing on May 18 will allow residents to submit comments before the council's final action later in the budget cycle.
