Planning staff to send comprehensive-plan rough draft to state for 60-day review

Planning staff told the North Beach Planning Commission on July 24 that a completed rough draft of the town's comprehensive plan will be ready within about 10 days and will be sent to the state to begin the required 60-day review window ahead of a joint hearing with the council.
Staff said the draft will not necessarily include full charts or pictures for this stage because the state does not require them and that the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Housing had already reviewed portions without major comments. The goal is to complete state review timeframes and target a joint hearing with the council in September or October so the commission and council can work toward final approval before the end of the year.
Commissioners asked about the turnaround for comments; staff asked commissioners to submit edits by email and noted that any council-requested changes after the state review can be forwarded to the state without re-triggering the entire review process. Staff emphasized the importance of the 60-day state review period as the schedule driver for the joint hearing.
