Kensington to adopt Montgomery Countys short-term rental rules; public hearing set April 9

The Kensington Council on March 12 introduced Ordinance O-03-2025 to amend Town code by enacting Chapter V, Article 7, "Transient Lodging Facilities," effectively incorporating Montgomery County Code Chapter 54. Town Manager Hoffman said Montgomery County had stopped enforcing Chapter 54 for the Town following a clarification by the Department of Housing and Community Affairs, and that adopting the ordinance would allow Kensington to opt in and defer enforcement to the County.
The introduction passed unanimously and a public hearing is scheduled for April 9, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. If adopted after the hearing, the ordinance would govern licensing and regulation of hotels, bed-and-breakfasts and short-term residential rentals consistent with County provisions; details and enforcement mechanisms will be addressed at the public hearing.
