Parksley Volunteer Fire Company reports rising EMS calls, adds volunteers; older engine undergoing service

Daryn Fussell, president of the Parksley Volunteer Fire Company, reported to the Parksley Town Council on Sept. 9 that PVFC responded to 126 EMS calls and 21 fire calls in August. Fussell said the company is on pace to average roughly one fire call per day and to handle more than 2,000 EMS calls annually if the current rate continues.
Fussell told councilmembers that eight new volunteers have joined PVFC in the past six months and that the company is now hosting Firefighter I and HazMat training courses. He also noted that PVFC currently operates two fire engines, one of which is about 30 years old and is temporarily out of service while being serviced.
The council acknowledged the report during department and council reports. The police department — reported by Chief Greer to Councilman York prior to the meeting — noted assistance to the fire company at a recent fatal house fire among other routine public-safety activities.
