Mayor Robinson updated the council that the Prince George's African American Arts Museum and Cultural Center has a court date scheduled for June 11 related to motions in a local dispute. The mayor said the town filed a reply to a motion to dismiss and is awaiting a judicial decision on standing; he urged residents and council supporters to attend and testify if possible.
The council also received a fire-department report from Fire Chief Jason Bunker. Bunker said the town will receive a county-owned ladder truck after July 1 when the county reassigns apparatus; the truck currently at the Clinton firehouse will be re-lettered and reassigned as Truck 55 and a county decision to reposition vehicles prompted the reassignment. Bunker also summarized recent multi-agency responses across the county and said an EMS-qualified probationary member joined the station earlier in May.
Event planning and community-calendar items were reviewed: Memorial Day ceremonies are set for May 25 at 10 a.m.; North Brentwood Day is scheduled for June 20 from noon to 5 p.m.; Trolley/Trail Day is June 13. Event planner Jolita Hawkins said volunteers are coordinating displays, tents and a schedule of activities.
The meeting recorded no formal council action on the museum litigation; the town's lawyer and staff will proceed with court filings and the town intends to have representatives available for the June 11 date.
