Daniel Page, representing the Calvert County Rotary Club and a North Beach resident, asked the council for permission to organize volunteer booths along the boardwalk where local volunteer organizations can offer short (3–5 minute) demonstrations and outreach to families. Page said he hoped to hold the event on a weekend, would not require town funds, and requested permission to advertise the event on the Calvert County Rotary Facebook page while coordinating logistics with town staff.
Mayor Benton asked Page to connect with Linda Vassallo to coordinate logistics and noted North Beach’s busy seasonal crowds; Page said he would organize outreach to county volunteer organizations and work with staff on details.
The council then read and adopted proclamations designating the osprey as the official bird of North Beach and declaring Saturday, April 5, 2025 to be Maryland Osprey & Nature Festival Day in town. Sal, who is overseeing the Osprey Festival, described event plans (April 5, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.) including live-bird demonstrations, speakers, kid-focused activities and live music.
Why this matters: the festival and proposed volunteer booths are part of the town’s event-season programming and serve tourism, education and nonprofit outreach goals. Staff will coordinate logistics to accommodate heavy boardwalk visitor traffic in the summer months.
Next steps: Page will contact town staff (Linda Vassallo) to set a planning meeting; Sal and waterfront staff will continue festival planning for April 5.
