Marinette Board of Public Works recommends closing Subway and Kwik Trip access points on Roosevelt Road

At its June 16, 2026 meeting, the Marinette Board of Public Works recommended that the Common Council approve permanently closing the access points from the Subway and Kwik Trip properties onto Roosevelt Road. Mayor Genisot moved the recommendation and Alderperson Lesperance seconded; all members present concurred.
The Board’s action followed a Marinette Police Department report that compiled public comments, complaints, traffic-flow information, crash data and injury statistics related to temporary closures on Roosevelt Road. The report was cited by the Board as the basis for recommending permanent changes to the roadway access.
Public Works Director and City Engineer Miller advised Board members that the proposed project can be returned to the Board of Public Works or to the Finance & Insurance Committee with a proposed layout and a cost estimate for further review before any work proceeds.
The recommendation is advisory: the Common Council must approve any permanent closure and any project would also involve coordination with the Marinette County Highway Commissioner, as noted by the Board. The Board adjourned at 4:29 PM.
