Transfer Station Foreman Mark Thurston told the board haulers charged the town $4.09 per tire while the town charges residents $4.00, creating a $0.09 loss per tire.
"They came to pick up tires charging us $4.09; we only charge $4.00 per tire so losing $0.09 per tire," Mark Thurston reported to the board. The board carried a motion setting enforcement in place; Thurston said attendants will stop accepting unpaid items at the gate beginning Aug. 1, 2026.
The board discussed the operational change and gave attendants authority to collect fees on site rather than require prepayment at the Town Office. The motion clarifies that attendants, not staff at the gate, should not accept materials without payment.
The change is intended to reduce the town's losses on disposal transactions and improve fee compliance; the minutes note residents have been informed that the change is forthcoming. The board carried the motion to implement the policy change.
