Resident Laura Pangrass addressed the board during public comments and said the reasons given for eliminating the committees — communication breakdowns and committee discord — were incorrect in her experience as a former committee chair. "Communication, accountability, transparency, and trust all go hand in hand," she said, urging the board to post ad-hoc committee membership, agendas and minutes on the Ocean Pines website and to consider term limits and broader participation.
Directors debated the policy trade-offs. Director Steve opposed the repeal, calling the decision "a mistake" and predicting the committees may return in another form. Director Elaine defended a shift toward task groups, saying temporary, focused teams would allow broader participation and be more productive. Elaine also proposed a discrete and expedited revision to ARC permit sequencing (requiring Ocean Pines permits before county permits) to reduce construction conflicts; the board agreed to schedule a special meeting for that change and a future town hall on broader revisions.
The board approved the repeal by voice vote. Staff said the repealed resolutions remain in the book of resolutions marked as repealed and that additional community engagement (town hall) will be scheduled for the updated ARC guidelines.
