White Bear Lake rolls out county food-scrap pickup pilot, lists summer events

City manager Miss Crawford told the White Bear Lake City Council that a new Ramsey–Washington County food-scrap pickup program is now available to residents and that starter kits are available at city hall.
The program uses a county-provided compostable bag; residents are instructed to collect food scraps in the supplied bag, tie it, and place it inside their trash cart or dumpster on collection day so an automated sorting system at the county recycling and energy center can separate the organics for composting. Miss Crawford emphasized that only the authorized compostable bags provided by the county can be used for collection.
"We have some trial kits in the lobby of city hall, but also you can order your free compostable bags at the site that's listed there," Miss Crawford said, encouraging residents to try the free program.
Miss Crawford also reminded the council of upcoming events: Market Fest with a public health and safety night featuring police, fire and Ramsey County partners on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.; the farmers market running Fridays through Oct. 30 from 8 a.m. to noon on Clark Street; and the police department's "Floats with the Fuzz" event on July 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Talley's.
The council received the announcements and moved to adjourn shortly afterward.
