Clifton council adds proposal to rename Community Meeting Hall for longtime mayor to February agenda

The Clifton Town Council voted on Jan. 5 to add to the February agenda a proposal to rename the Community Meeting Hall in honor of longtime former Councilmember and Mayor Wayne Nickum.
Mayor William Hollaway moved to add the item (seconded by Councilmember Steve Effros); the motion passed by poll, 6-0. Hollaway said Nickum, who moved to Clifton nearly 50 years ago and served over four decades in town government, deserved recognition. Councilmembers agreed the matter merited fuller public discussion and suggested placing the item on the Feb. agenda so county feasibility and potential procedural requirements can be determined.
No final decision to rename the facility was made at the Jan. 5 meeting; Mayor Hollaway volunteered to check with Fairfax County about the renaming process and implications and the item will be scheduled for public discussion in February.
