Polk County schedules short-term road closures for railroad crossing work

Todd Whitaker, Polk County public works director, told the Board of Commissioners that the railroad has provided a schedule for reconstruction of multiple crossings and the county will close affected roads to accommodate the work.
Whitaker said Hailey Road will be closed starting July 13 for two days. Farmer Road is scheduled for July 15 and Crowley Road for July 16, each as one-day closures. He also said Stevenson Road will be closed this coming Saturday. "Hailey Road will be closed on July 13," Whitaker said.
A commissioner asked whether the county would place notifications and signage; Whitaker said signs were placed last week and that the county had sent standard notices to emergency responders. A board member suggested posting the alerts on the Board of Commissioners' Facebook page as an additional notification channel.
Whitaker said another closure will be needed on Bethel Road but the county does not yet have a confirmed schedule because the initial timing conflicted with an ODOT project and could create confusing messages on signage; staff are coordinating a revised schedule and will notify the board when it is finalized.
The county emphasized that most closures will be one day, with Hailey Road marked as a two-day closure, and encouraged residents to follow posted detours and notices from emergency services. The board did not take formal additional action at this meeting; staff will publish schedules and updates when dates are finalized.
