The Montello Public Safety Committee approved a Fourth of July celebration to be held July 5, 2025, and accepted the police department's monthly report at a brief meeting on June 18.
Lisa Smith informed the committee that the city's Fourth of July celebration will take place on July 5, 2025. Committee member Venise Mugler moved to approve the event; Kelly Kenitz seconded and the motion was recorded as approved (vote tally not specified in the minutes).
Captain Kowalski told the committee there were 64 police cases in May; Mugler moved to accept the monthly report and Kenitz seconded, with the motion recorded as approved (vote tally not specified). Ken Streich reported that the next Municipal Court session is scheduled for Oct. 1, 2025.
During citizen comments, resident Bill Faulkner asked whether anything could be done about heavy-equipment trucks using Park Street. The committee directed that signage for Park Street be put on the agenda for the July Public Safety meeting; the minutes do not record which staff member or department will carry out that task.
Captain Kowalski also said the parade route has been approved by the state; the minutes do not identify the specific state agency that issued that approval.
A motion to adjourn, moved by Richard Dufour and seconded by Venise Mugler, carried and the meeting ended at 6:19 PM. The next Public Safety Committee meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Minutes were submitted by Bobbi Richter.
