The Public Safety Committee voted to approve a special event permit for Main Street Monroe’s "1st Thursday Wind Walk," a recurring downtown event that local businesses organize.
The chair called the committee to order and, after the police department presented business items, a committee member introduced the permit application “for Main Street Monroe and the 1st Thursday wind walk,” noting the event has been held in prior years and that participating businesses often rotate. “So in front of you is the special event permit application for Main Street Monroe and the 1st Thursday wind walk,” the committee member said. The member then moved to approve the permit; the chair seconded.
During brief discussion the chair asked whether the event has a limit on the number of participating businesses. The committee member responded that there is no fixed limit — participation depends on which Main Street businesses wish to take part. “I believe ... it's those that are in the Main Street area that want to participate,” the committee member said.
The clerk called the roll for the vote. Alder Cleveland voted "aye," Alder Wortenweiler voted "aye," and Alder Schaeffer voted "aye." The motion passed by the members present.
Under other business a committee member moved to adjourn and the chair seconded; the meeting was then adjourned.
The approved permit covers the recurring Main Street event described in the committee packet; details such as specific participating businesses are recorded on the list provided to the committee and were described in the meeting packet as the "new list." No additional conditions or limits were imposed during the meeting.
