Board approves lacrosse cooperative and routine consent items; names new student representative

Staff recorded receipts of $6,658,953.08 in the receipt register and the board approved expenditures of $1,366,229.28 by roll call; the roll call recorded affirmative votes from Mark Grossman, Nate Grande, John Heidemann, Holly Schroeder, Mandy Wells and Katie Benton.
Phil Sloane (S2) presented a request to approve a cooperative agreement with Bay Valley Lacrosse Association for boys and girls lacrosse for 2025–26 and 2026–27. He said two freshman boys are currently participating at the JV level; families currently bear most financial obligations for similar cooperative sports. Board members asked about transportation logistics and costs and were told families typically handle transportation and that costs are managed through the club model. The board voted and approved the coop.
The board also accepted the statement of canvass from the recent school board election and congratulated incoming members Patricia Toney, Andy Thorpe and Holly Schweitzer; staff noted new members cannot take office until May 28, but Andy’s official start date is May 14 for certain functions. The board named Charles Smoma as the student board representative who will attend meetings in May and rejoin in September.
The meeting closed after recognitions and a motion to adjourn.
