Board adopts early literacy program and Montana Early Childhood Literacy Standards

Superintendent (Speaker 2) described three program models and said the district can collect partial a/b funds for some program components (for example, summer school). “So the summer school program for all of these, you can collect a and b with,” he said while explaining funding limits for K‑1 services. He recommended board approval of the reading program and the standards.
Board members signaled support and the motion was moved, seconded and carried on voice vote. The Superintendent said staff will add an assessment component for K‑1 students and integrate the program into next year’s child‑find and preschool screening work.
The board did not specify exact vendor or curriculum titles at the meeting; the Superintendent noted that an initial work session on curriculum mapping will begin and that resource purchases are planned for 2025.
