Residents urge fixes to Simplot Ballfields accessibility; Summer Craze organizers seek new options

Residents and event organizers used the public comment portion of the Aug. 9 Afton Town Council meeting to press the council on accessibility at the Simplot Ballfields and to propose alternatives for the Afton Summer Craze now that the car show has been transferred to the Lincoln County Fair Board.
Dustin Hill told the council he is concerned about access and parking for people with disabilities at the Simplot Ballfields. Council members said they have been researching options and costs and will continue to explore solutions. The council asked Town Administrator Hyun Kim to look into possible grants that might fund accessibility improvements.
Sierra Mitchell, who organized the Summer Craze event, thanked the council and town employees for their support and said the car show component has been turned over to the Lincoln County Fair Board to be held during fair week; she asked the town to research other events to include with Summer Craze in future years. Sarah Hale also offered ideas to replace the car show and suggested ways to help with handicap parking.
Council members thanked the speakers for their efforts and directed staff to continue researching grant opportunities and potential event formats; no funding decisions were made during the meeting.
