New London School District board elects John Heinemann president, fills officer posts

The New London School District Board of Education elected John Heinemann as board president at its April special meeting, the board announced after a nomination and unanimous-ballot procedure.
The board met at 6 p.m. and the chair opened nominations for president. A board member nominated Heinemann, who accepted. Members were offered the option of a unanimous ballot or individual votes; the board cast a unanimous ballot to elect Heinemann.
The board then selected Katie Denton as vice president by unanimous ballot. Nominations for clerk closed with a unanimous ballot electing Holly Schweitzer to that role. The board also held a ballot for treasurer after multiple nominations; the chair announced a tally of five votes for Mark Grossman and two for another candidate and declared Grossman treasurer.
The officer elections were procedural and took place at the start of the meeting so the newly installed president could lead the remainder of the session. The chair noted the process would move next to the consent agenda and then to substantive business including the budget update and personnel matters.
The board proceedings used standard nomination, second and ballot procedures; no contested legal or policy items accompanied the officer elections. The board moved on to new business after the officer selections.
