Clifton officials mobilize as county budget may cut local ambulance service; senators coordinate letters

Town Clerk Kerrie Gogoel said she worked with local restaurants to collect signatures for a letter to Chairman McKay opposing the proposed cut. Town Administrator Laura Jane Cohen said she met with Chairman McKay and was cautiously hopeful the service would be preserved but warned the outcome remains uncertain until the county completes its process. Cohen added that Senators Helmer and Pekarsky are working with the firefighters’ union and will send a letter on behalf of the Town.
Councilmembers said several members plan to sign up to provide public comment during the county’s three days of public sessions; Administrator Cohen offered to help residents unable to attend by sharing their stories on their behalf and to advise on timing to avoid long waits. No formal town-level vote was recorded on the matter at the meeting; council discussion centered on coordination and resident outreach.
The council did not receive a final county decision at the meeting and emphasized that town-level advocacy continues while the county budget process is underway.
