Votes at a glance: Clifton Council approves routine payments, conservation work and participation in hazard-mitigation planning

At its April 1 meeting, the Clifton Town Council approved a series of motions and routine items in a unanimous set of votes and poll approvals.
Financial and administrative votes: Council approved an invoice to Green Valley Landscaping (mulching, $2,100) and approved updating United Bank paperwork so Treasurer Suzy Murphy could be added to accounts and credit-card access (motion by CM Screen; seconded by CM Davis; poll approval 6-0). The Treasurer’s report was approved by poll vote 6-0. Service Mechanical’s invoice for quarterly maintenance (about $550) was under the $1,000 threshold and required no council approval.
Planning and permitting: The Planning Commission recommended renewal of a one-year conditional-use permit for Fairfax County DPWES (Susan Davidson) to continue the glass-recycling collection site (Purple Can Club) at Clifton Elementary School; Council approved the recommendation and waived this year’s application fee in honor of late resident Joel Byrne (motion passed 6-0).
Environment funding: The Council approved $1,650 to cover the Town’s half of a spring invasive-plant treatment after Committee on the Environment Chair Laura McDonald said a master plan for the floodplain is being developed and that a fall follow-up would be required.
Regional planning: Council voted 6-0 to sign a letter of intent to participate in the Northern Virginia Hazard Mitigation Plan update, a necessary step to allow the Town to be included in the consultant-led update and to preserve eligibility for certain disaster-related grants.
Budget process: Council set FY26 budget work-session dates for April 17, April 24 and May 1 at 7 p.m. to prepare a draft for a later public hearing and final approval.
