The Pulaski Parks & Recreation Commission heard a progress report May 13 on the sPARKing Community project at Shippy Park, including updates on a nearly finished pedestrian bridge, public-art seating and plans for a floating stage.
Commission members were told the bridge is roughly 85% complete, with lighting work still under way and sidewalks finished on the park’s north side; south-side sidewalk work is scheduled to proceed as weather permits. The commission discussed how to allocate park impact fees, which the financial update listed as 50% toward the bridge and 50% toward a walkway.
Kim Wozniak presented plans for a mosaic tile seating area that would involve visiting artists. Wozniak described the seating as a “kidney bean-shaped” design featuring two themes: agriculture/farming and music. Commissioners discussed where the mosaic seating should be placed within the park and asked staff to finalize a layout that also accommodates a floating stage. Commissioners noted that restrooms are a future possibility but did not set a timeline or funding source for them.
A motion to open and later close the floor for discussion was made and carried during the Old Business item. No formal action was taken to approve a final seating placement or restroom funding; the commission directed staff and volunteers to continue planning and to bring refined proposals to a future meeting.
