Board advances first reading of threat-assessment procedures required by Senate Bill 213

The Sidney High School Board accepted the first reading of additions to the district safety manual that establish threat-assessment practices and team responsibilities, aligning district policy with Senate Bill 213.
Superintendent (S2) summarized the legislative changes, citing the amendment to section 20-1-401 of the Montana Code Annotated that requires districts to include threat-assessment procedures, identify threat-assessment teams and hold monthly leadership-team reviews of assessments and outcomes. S2 said the district will form building-level teams (principals, counselors and key staff) and a district threat-assessment leadership team composed of building principals and central staff to review cases as they arise.
The superintendent noted that, when a student on an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is involved, the student's case manager would be added to the team for that review. He emphasized training will be needed and that the district would schedule sessions to prepare team members for the procedural review process.
A trustee moved and the board voted to accept the first reading; the item will remain in board packets for discussion at future meetings and return for subsequent readings or final adoption according to the district's procedures.
