The board was also presented with a newly drafted policy establishing a framework for therapy dogs in schools, which would create annual notice requirements, proof of liability coverage and a process for excluding animals if expectations were not met.
"I brought forward a recommendation for the policy committee to consider therapy dogs in school," the Director said, noting the district already recognizes support animals but that the written policy would add clarity and accountability.
The item was informational as a first reading; board members asked clarifying questions but took no formal action. The policies will return for additional review and a subsequent reading before any vote.
