At the Aug. 12 Stephens City Town Council meeting, Town Manager Mike Majher reported several routine operational changes and the council approved multiple administrative actions.
Operational updates: Majher said a new trash service, Apple Valley, will start Sept. 3 and will assign serial numbers to bins. The town is contracting a sewer flow monitoring company that will start next month and provide map‑update assistance; sewer replacement behind the Fire Hall has begun. Sidewalk contractor A & J Landscaping will continue work in September from Gregory’s to Martin Street.
Surplus equipment: Councilwoman Swygert‑Smith moved to surplus an old Bobcat, a backhoe attachment, Dicky Sandy’s old bucket truck and a vehicle trailer; the motion carried unanimously.
Closed session and certification: Councilwoman Smith moved for a closed session under Section 2.2‑3711(A)(1) of the Code of Virginia; the motion and a later certification carried by recorded vote. Council also moved to appoint Elizabeth A. Dutrow and Thomas Pickles to the Tree Commission; that motion carried unanimously. Vice‑Mayor Fravel moved to adjourn at 7:42 p.m. and the meeting ended.
