Stephens City updates: taxes due July 31, sewer repairs ongoing; new Tree Commission appointment

Town Manager Mike Majher told the Stephens City Town Council on July 1 that tax bills were mailed after a conversion delay and are due July 31, and that water bills were recently sent.
Majher said staff are converting basement files, fire hydrant pressure testing results are being integrated into the town's GIS system, and the Office of Drinking Water has added an additional testing location to accommodate town growth. He reported sewer repairs behind Clem's are finished, work on the sewer main behind the school is next, and Visu‑Sewer will arrive to assist with manhole repairs.
Councilwoman Smith reported that the Public Works Committee discussed beautification at Valley View and adding a Tree Commission. She nominated Steph Bonner for appointment; Bonner said she has been training with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. The council voted unanimously to appoint Steph Bonner to the Tree Commission.
Councilwoman Swygert‑Smith moved to direct the Town Manager to research a cost‑share grant from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources to update the Historic District; the council approved that motion unanimously. The meeting also included adoption of two resolutions of appreciation honoring Tabitha Reeves and Gary Kula.
Staff announced a Styrofoam collection day with materials to be transported to Glen Burnie, Maryland under a recycling grant. The clerk said there was nothing further to report, and Vice‑Mayor Fravel moved to adjourn at 6:51 p.m.; the motion carried unanimously.
