The Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education on Aug. 6 approved a set of personnel moves, equipment purchases and service contracts and adopted the district's 2025-2026 tax rate. President Otting called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. in the Mason Senior High School IVN room; the board adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
The board unanimously approved the agenda as revised and then passed a consent agenda that included the July 9, 2025 meeting minutes, the 2025-2026 student handbooks for CES, MMS and MSHS/MAVA, and authorization for Kelli Tuller to attend the MASA conference in Traverse City Sept. 16-19, 2025. The board also adopted the district's 2025-2026 MHSAA membership resolution.
On action items, the board accepted a quote from Monroe Plumbing and Heating Company for the Filter First Fixture Replacement and Installation Project at $65,050. The board later accepted a separate Monroe Plumbing and Heating quote for a weightroom rooftop unit (RTU) replacement; the minutes do not list a price for the RTU line item. Both motions were moved by Grodi and passed 5-0.
The board approved several food-service capital items funded from the food-service excess fund balance: purchase of an elementary Hobart-model dishwasher from TriMark SS Kemp for $41,251 and a True Manufacturing three-door refrigerator from HPS for $7,728.38. Those purchases were approved on motions that carried 5-0.
The board voted to contract with ATI Holdings, LLC for athletic trainer services; the minutes do not specify contract length or dollar amount. The board also approved 2025-2026 individual contracts (details not specified in the minutes).
Personnel actions included approval to rehire Kelsey Cole as middle school English at Step 11 MA with a salary of $69,203. The board also approved hiring Traci Fackelman for middle school special education at Step 10 BA contingent on receipt of favorable criminal-history, reference and background checks. Both personnel motions passed unanimously.
President Otting presented the July check register and financial report; neither prompted questions from the board. The minutes record that Josh Dyer of Comprehensive Energy Solutions gave a presentation, but the minutes do not include the presentation's content.
The meeting closed with brief community notes (England noted the Luna Pier Parade; Grodi mentioned the Maplewood Fitness Park) and adjournment at 6:40 p.m. on a motion by England supported by Nehrig.
