Frenchboro Select Board elects Joe Lunt chair, approves fireworks funding and routine warrant

The Frenchboro Select Board convened June 22 and unanimously approved several routine items, authorized funding for Independence Day fireworks and elected Joe Lunt as board chair.
Daniel Swain reviewed a small warrant and presented the treasurer’s report; the board approved the warrant. Swain reported that the town’s 2023 audit is complete and that copies will be distributed at the next regular meeting. He said materials for the 2024 audit are being compiled and will be delivered to Wadman Associates, and that he has contacted Susan Lessard to provide consulting assistance for the upcoming audit. Swain also said he will prepare monthly financial reports going forward. The board asked that Swain receive a copy of a tax-lien schedule researched by Jackie Mitchell.
George Baker requested authorization to purchase fireworks for July 4 using a $1,000 gift card. Joe Lunt moved to approve the purchase; Larry Smith seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. Baker said additional fundraising is expected to bring the total available to about $2,000.
On board organization, Chris Hodgkins moved to elect Joe Lunt as Select Board chair. Larry Smith seconded the motion and the board approved it unanimously, making Lunt chair for the current term.
Board members discussed the pending sale of town-owned lots and expressed interest in using someone other than Steve Shelton to represent the town in the sale process, citing recent interactions and a preference for someone based on the island. Lauren Jennings offered to remain involved in the sale process in her capacity as MAC chair but said she would not act as the town’s attorney.
The board heard a brief update that Austin Soucy is beginning road maintenance work on the island. Town Administrator Rick Erb said he will meet by Zoom on June 29 with the EPA grant provider and representatives from Wright-Pierce to discuss the Head of the Harbor project; Jennings said she will attend on behalf of the MAC.
With no further business, the board adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
