Mason Consolidated Schools details safety upgrades and approves revised emergency plan

At its Oct. 1 meeting, the Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education heard a school-safety update from School Resource Officer Bill Rollins and approved a revised Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).
Rollins summarized recent security improvements, noting new equipment, staff training, building modifications, practice drills and "go bags for every classroom and space," which he cited as one of the most recent updates. Board members also discussed additional third-party safety assessments: district staff said they are engaging Lockout USA to evaluate areas not covered in the initial round, including the stadium and fields.
The board unanimously approved the revised EOP on a motion by John Waller, supported by England. The vote was recorded 4-0. No public speakers attended the public-comment period.
Board leaders said the EOP update and outside assessments are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen preparedness and close gaps identified in earlier reviews. Further assessments and any resulting recommendations are expected to be reported to the board at a future meeting.
