Board moves into closed session to consider preliminary nonrenewal notices and staff compensation

Chair (S1) moved that the board convene a closed session citing Wisconsin Statute 19.85(1)(c) to consider employment, promotion, compensation or performance data of public employees and specifically to consider issuance of preliminary notices of nonrenewal under Statute 118.22(3) and to discuss compensation for administrators and certified staff.

In the motion the chair recited the statutory basis for closing the meeting: "Wisconsin statute 19.85, so section 1 and c, to consider employment, promotion, compensation, or performance data of any public employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility, specifically to consider issuance of preliminary notices of nonrenewal pursuant to a statute statute 118.22 subsection 3, and further to discuss administrators and supervisors' compensation ... and certified staff compensation." The motion was seconded and the board prepared to go into closed session with a roll-call format announced; the transcript ends with the board moving to closed session and no public outcome recorded.

The chair also thanked Kelly for three years of board service before the closed-session motion.

Why it matters: The closed session was convened to consider personnel actions and compensation matters that cannot be discussed in public under state law. The board recorded the statutory citation and the specific personnel topics to be considered but did not announce any decisions publicly after the meeting.
