Spitz McGee re-elected board president; Laura McKenzie elected vice president

At its Jan. 12 reorganization, the Kent County Board of Education elected Spitz McGee as board president and Laura McKenzie as vice president. Both officers were approved by voice vote after nominations and seconds during the annual reorganization process.
The Kent County Board of Education completed its annual Jan. 12 reorganization, re-electing Spitz McGee as president and choosing Laura McKenzie as vice president.
The superintendent opened nominations for 2026 board leadership and members nominated and seconded candidates. The superintendent reported that the motion to elect the president was made by Mr. Rhodes and seconded by Ms. McKenzie; the board approved the motion with all present voting yes except that the nominee, Ms. McGee, abstained and one member (Mr. Queen) was not present.
When nominations for vice president followed, the board moved and seconded a motion to elect Laura McKenzie. That motion passed by voice vote; the superintendent congratulated McKenzie and handed the meeting back to President McGee.
The reorganization was the first formal item of the evening and was followed by routine procedural business including approval of the meeting agenda and a brief closed-session report. No policy changes were made as part of the reorganization vote.
The board will next meet Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the administrative building for its regular session.
