Council hears police nuisance complaint about 6545 Annapolis Road and presses for more mosquito spraying

Public‑safety items dominated part of the Sept. 9 Landover Hills workshop as police and councilmembers discussed an ongoing nuisance issue at an events venue and concerns about mosquito control.
Interim Chief of Police Elnos Gomez told the council he has "filed another complaint with the Prince George's County Nuisance Abatement Board concerning 6545 Annapolis Road having events at that location." Gomez said the owners have changed the business name from "DMV Events" to "DMV Events Venue Inc." and that he will advise the council when the county hearing is scheduled.
Councilmembers Todd Over and Vice Mayor Jeannette Ripley raised broader public‑health concerns about mosquitoes. Town Manager Rommel Pazmino reported that spraying occurred the week of Aug. 23 and said the town will set additional traps to try to justify more spraying. The council asked staff to contact the State to seek additional spraying because of the potential for mosquito‑borne illnesses.
Other administrative items raised during the miscellaneous section included a report about an old For Sale sign behind the Bank of America and an upcoming Sustainable Communities Program renewal notice from Prince George's County Planning Division.
Next steps: Chief Gomez will notify the council when the nuisance abatement hearing is set; staff will deploy additional traps and contact the State regarding mosquito spraying.
