Ruff said the proposed hours of use are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and that the draft currently allocates only four parking spaces to the community room.
Council members questioned why a town employee would be responsible for opening, closing and staffing the room — a concern tied to costs and the fact the space will be used for a Prince George's County program. Interim Chief of Police Elnos Gomez told the council that "an alarm and camera system will be needed for the interior of the room." Ruff said she was negotiating the indemnification clause and seeking more detail on maintenance obligations.
Members asked staff to consult County Councilwoman Jolene Ivey's office about the community room, noting the room was a condition she added when approving the Extra Space Storage project. The council did not take a vote; members asked for follow‑up information and said the item will return for further review.
Next steps: the town attorney will continue negotiating terms, staff will seek guidance from Councilwoman Ivey's office, and the lease will be brought back to the council when more information on indemnification, maintenance and staffing/costs is available.
