Landover Hills approves Bates trash contract; council directs fee proposal after tipping-fee increases

Landover Hills — Town Manager Rommel Pazmino reported negotiated terms with Bates for residential trash collection at the council’s Nov. 18 meeting. Councilmembers approved acceptance of service agreements pending legal review and asked staff to present a trash-fee proposal at the next council meeting.
Pazmino said the negotiated annual contract total is $166,980. He explained that Bates initially requested the town buy new bins, but the town has no storage space; the parties agreed the town will request replacement labeled Bates bins when needed instead of bulk purchase. Based on the CPI schedule in the packet, Pazmino said the town faces an approximately $24,000 annual increase overall, which he summarized as roughly $48 more per household.
Pazmino also noted anticipated increases in Prince George’s County tipping fees: from $70 per ton currently to $77 per ton effective Jan. 1, 2025, with planned increases to $85 per ton on July 1, 2025 and $90 per ton on July 1, 2026. Councilman Todd Over moved to accept service agreements pending legal review; Councilwoman Kathy Walker seconded and the motion passed with all in favor. The council then directed Pazmino and Town Treasurer Fredy Aguilar to prepare a public proposal on the trash-fee increase for review at the next meeting.
