New Windsor council flags stained war memorial plaques, asks attorney to review staff-hunting proposal at town farm

Residents told the Town of New Windsor Council on Sept. 16, 2025 that plaques at War Memorial Park were marked or stained following recent repairs. Councilmembers acknowledged the concern and said addressing the staining would need to be placed in the FY27 budget for consideration.
The council also reviewed options for the town’s 18-foot artificial Christmas tree—purchased about a year ago for $7,500, pre-lit with LED lights and supplied with ornaments—and discussed a proposed sale price of $5,000. Council asked Public Works Supervisor Tobery to inspect the tree and asked the clerk/treasurer to advise on funding for replacement or repair if needed.
On a separate agenda item, councilmembers discussed deer damaging crops at Bower Sox Farm and a proposal to open hunting there to town staff. Rather than decide at the work session, the council asked Town Attorney Ostrander to review the relevant documents and return the matter for consideration at the next meeting. The minutes record no formal policy or approval on hunting; the item remains under review.
Council also made several routine announcements, including the 5th Annual Frank Schafer Memorial 5K on Oct. 18, Music on the Main on Oct. 4, scheduled bee removal at 211 High Street on Sept. 17, an increased Highway User Revenue estimate for FY27, and paving work by contractor CPE. The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
