Landover Hills manager reports: cleanup turnout, CDBG grant plans, IT vendor search and mosquito testing

Town Manager Rommel Pazmino provided several operational updates at the Oct. 7 Landover Hills workshop, including community cleanup results, grant and paving plans, IT vendor outreach, mosquito testing and personnel scheduling.
Pazmino said the recent Clean-up Day produced enough debris to fill one dumpster and about three-quarters of a second; the Royal Rangers reported a smaller trash haul than at prior events but had more than 30 members in attendance and are assisting with the Town’s Veteran’s Day Memorial Service. Pazmino told the Council he met with Prince George’s County about the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) PY51 application, due Nov. 1, and identified 70th Avenue as the road slated for paving; Councilmembers asked him to apply to include Chesapeake Street as well. He said the Speed Camera Report has been submitted.
On IT procurement, Pazmino said a representative from Peak IT Services will meet with him on Oct. 8 to discuss services; he said Alpha IT Company is "a no go" and that he will forward any quotes he receives from Peak. Pazmino also reported additional mosquito testing is planned for October and that the Council asked staff to seek earlier and stronger mosquito-spraying outreach with the State in the coming year. He added that there is a scheduled interview for the Clerk position on Oct. 11.
State Senator Malcolm Augustine attended the workshop, offered assistance to the Town and introduced Vanessa Velez Romero, who will oversee constituent services; Augustine invited the Mayor and Council to the District 47 Town Meeting on Nov. 2, 2024. Mayor Schomisch confirmed the Town’s Veteran’s Day Memorial Service will be held Nov. 11 at 11:00 a.m.
