Landover Hills council hears police, code enforcement and public-works reports; stop-sign cameras await contract revision

The Landover Hills Town Council on Sept. 23 received routine reports from finance, police, code enforcement and public works staff, including updates on stop-sign cameras, a nuisance-abatement hearing and proposed code changes for snow removal.
Interim Chief of Police Elnos Gomez reviewed August calls for service and said the town’s stop-sign camera program is a work in progress; he is awaiting a revised contract from Obvio Company before the town can forward the contract to the town attorney. Chief Gomez also advised the council that the Prince George’s County Nuisance Abatement Board will hold a virtual hearing on violations at 6545 Annapolis Road on Oct. 17 at 9:30 a.m.
Code Enforcement Officer Michael Thompson reported potential code violations at a Taylor Street property operating as an auto repair site; he said Prince George’s County zoning would not inspect the site when contacted. Thompson also flagged a Fairfax Street property with numerous violations where the homeowner does not live at the property and a family dispute is ongoing. Thompson asked the mayor to receive specific sections of the town code he believes should be revised to improve enforcement; council members discussed options including volunteer assistance for residents and contracting landscape companies to help with snow removal.
Public Works updates included a Pepco survey showing the town had been overcharged for three light poles and that a refund will be issued. Councilmember Glenda Johnson suggested the town consider a shredding service for residents at the next clean-up day. Town Manager Rommel Pazmino noted volunteers from his church had offered to help with snow removal and other needs; Chief Gomez recommended a liability waiver and Pazmino said volunteers have coverage under LGIT as noted in the meeting.
The minutes do not record formal enforcement actions or specific timelines for the code changes; Mr. Thompson was asked to send the mayor the code sections and his proposed amendments for future action.
