After adjourning the outgoing board, the newly seated Freeman School Board held organizational actions, approving officer appointments and a sequence of administrative policies.
Nominations opened for board chair and vice chair. Following nominations and a motion to cease nominations, the board approved Emily Anderson as board chair for fiscal year 2027 and approved Katie Fransen as vice chair by voice votes.
The board also approved a package of administrative and policy items: designating the Freeman Courier as the district’s official newspaper; naming several banks as depositories and authorizing the business manager to move district checking accounts among those depositories; appointing the Freeman police chief and superintendent as truancy officers; designating Rebecca Hofer as the district student 504 ADA coordinator and the superintendent as district staff 504 ADA coordinator; and authorizing the use of signature stamps for the business manager, chairperson and superintendent.
On fees and user charges the board: approved holding school board elections in June; amended activity admission pricing to include a senior price (age 65+) at the $5 student rate; raised adult season tickets from $70 to $75 while keeping student access free; set board member pay at $60 per meeting; approved updated school lunch pricing consistent with state law (adult lunch to $5.50) and noted House Bill 1030 requires reduced-price meals to be free for qualifying students; set substitute pay to remain unchanged; and approved mileage and worker reimbursement rates.
What happens next: administrative appointments and fee schedules take effect for the coming fiscal year; staff will update official records and publish the designated newspaper notices where required.
