Board authorizes $98,000 in vacancy savings to pay sheriff’s comp time and overtime

At the May 14 meeting the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors approved a Sheriff’s Office request to apply $98,000 in vacancy savings to pay out accrued comp time and to fund overtime.
Administrator Tracy M. Gee reported the Sheriff’s Office identified $98,000 in local vacancy savings. The Board approved using $70,668 of that amount to payout comp time hours and to apply the remaining balance toward overtime, a move the Sheriff’s Office said would reduce each staff member’s comp time balance to no more than 100 hours.
Supervisor T. Wayne Hoover made the motion and Supervisor Frank W. Bacon seconded. The motion passed with six voting yes and Supervisor Greg Currin abstaining because he previously noted a conflict related to his employment with the Sheriff’s Office.
Earlier in the meeting the Board separately approved a related transfer of $9,800 from Compensation Board vacancy savings to Repairs & Maintenance ($7,800) and Office Supplies ($2,000).
