Board adopts VDOT six‑year secondary roads plan including 17 miles of upgrades

The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors voted May 14 to adopt the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Secondary Roads Six Year Improvement Plan for FY2027–2032.
VDOT representative Brad Rogers presented the plan, which includes just over 17 miles of upgrades to unsurfaced county routes. Rogers said crews also completed a traffic study on Poorhouse Road that recommended signage changes but did not recommend changing existing speed limits; the recommended signage changes have already been implemented.
Supervisor Robert Zava moved to approve the resolution; Supervisor Edward Pennington seconded the motion and the Board approved the resolution unanimously.
Rogers reported operational activity including pothole patching, dust control on unpaved surfaces and collection of roughly 140 bags of litter along secondary roads. He agreed to provide the Board with the full Poorhouse Road traffic-study results and explained the Board has limited authority to change speed limits if the study does not recommend changes.
The adopted plan sets project priorities for state-administered secondary road improvements and will guide VDOT scheduling and county coordination over the next five fiscal years.
