Denton board approves senior-services contract, budget amendments and town policies

"They do meals on wheels through there and then other activities for the seniors in the community," Staff member (S10) said while summarizing the contract.
Council also approved an updated fee schedule to reflect a revised bulk water rate of $1.8059 per 1,000 gallons and adopted several budget amendments. Staff explained a roughly $99,009 invoice covered unplanned repairs and replacement work on two wastewater treatment plant clarifiers that failed and required rebuilding. The board approved a separate budget amendment of about $15,004.35 to cover police department flooring and painting costs.
The town adopted a townwide data‑breach and imminent‑breach procedure intended to clarify detection, notification and post‑incident review steps and to satisfy requirements for certain grant applications. Chief James (S6) was identified in the packet as a potential project director for grant notifications when appropriate.
The board also voted to purchase a used 2016 Ford Explorer from Archdale Police Department for approximately $2,000 plus equipment and decals, with total estimated cost around $4,033 once a pump, labor and decals are added. The purchase was described as providing a backup vehicle as the chief's current car ages.
Other business included approval of the Carolina Antique Power Club's May 3 downtown tractor and car event and direction to staff to revise the town's small business grant and job‑creation grant language per commissioner suggestions (changes included shortening the employment verification period from 12 to six months and allowing utility assistance to be provided earlier). The board also moved to advance a hydraulic engineering study after months of delay and asked staff to follow up with the selected engineering firms.
What the votes mean: the approvals allocate existing town and enterprise funds to cover repairs, capital purchases and contracted services; staff will post updated fee schedules and follow up on contract and grant language amendments at a future meeting.
