Policy Committee advances annual policy updates, tables Policy 3.206 for legal review

The Policy Committee met Feb. 19 and reviewed proposed revisions across a broad set of policies. For Policy Series 3 (Business and Operations), the committee considered editorial updates and clarifications to align with Tennessee law and recommendations from the Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA). Discussion addressed statutory references and liability limits under the Tennessee Governmental Tort Liability Act; the committee moved to recommend approval of the Series 3 revisions with the exception of Policy 3.206 (Community Use of School Facilities), which will remain tabled and be reviewed further by legal counsel and the Policy Committee.
For Policy Series 4 (Instruction), the committee approved a first reading of proposed revisions that include updates to instructional program standards, class size and special education references, work-based learning, AI guidance, homebound instruction and textbook adoption procedures. The committee directed that proposed revisions be submitted to Ben Torres at TSBA for review and concurrence before final adoption.
The committee also reviewed Central Office recommendations for additional policy revisions (Payroll Procedures, Bids and Quotations, Vacations and Holidays) and moved those for first reading to the full Board. All committee motions passed unanimously at the meeting.
The Policy Committee’s recommendations will proceed to the full Board for final consideration where required; Policy 3.206 will remain under legal review before the Board acts.
