Fayette County School Board declares five properties surplus; Thompson Drive offered first to Head Start

The Fayette County Board of Education voted on Feb. 9 to declare five district-owned properties as surplus, approving a motion from Kevin Powers that Merrel Miller seconded. The motion passed with six members voting in favor and one member recorded as abstained or passing.
The parcels listed for surplus declaration included LaGrange Road (Parcel No. 131-02100-000), 317 Midland Street, Somerville (Parcel No. 090-C-C-03500-000), 100 Thompson Drive, Moscow (Parcel No. 158-02300-000), 5245 Highway 70 — former Northwest Elementary School (Parcel No. 016-01700-000) and a Highway 70 property associated with the former Northwest Elementary School (Parcel No. 016-01800-000).
Superintendent Don McPherson said the Thompson Drive property had been leased by Head Start and that Head Start would receive the first opportunity to purchase the parcel; if Head Start declines, the property will be marketed per district procedures. Board members discussed fair-market-value requirements, listing procedures and legal requirements for the sale process.
The Board recorded the vote as In Favor: 6; Abstained/Pass: 1. Administration will proceed with surplus declarations and follow district sale procedures.
