Committees clear JROTC out-of-state trip and approve expanded bus driver recruitment

Committee members reviewed an expedited request for an out-of-state field trip by Fayette-Ware High School’s CTE JROTC to Jonesboro, Arkansas, scheduled for Feb. 28, 2026. Dr. Don McPherson explained the request needed expedited approval because of scheduling and weather-related delays; Kevin Powers moved to recommend approval to the Executive Committee and full Board, Myles Wilson seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
Separately, committees discussed bus driver recruitment strategies, including placement of recruitment banners, outreach at retailer parking lots, advertising in local publications and supporting employees seeking Commercial Driver License (CDL) certification. Dr. McPherson reported seven individuals are currently pursuing CDL certification. Kevin Powers moved to recommend approval of the advertising initiative, Myles Wilson seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Both recommendations will be forwarded to the Executive Committee and the full Board for final action as part of routine committee-to-Board processes.
